Siobhan Rose Rushin: If You Ask Her Whether She’ll Play Basketball Like Rebecca Lobo — She Might Get Angry

With a WNBA All-Star player for a mom, a sportswriter for a father, and an aspiring basketball player for a sister, one might assume Siobhan Rose Rushin is going to pursue a career in sports.

Will she do it, though? Here’s what we know!

Siobhan Rushin: Quick Bio

Let’s kick things off with a quick bio!

  • Birthdate: December 25, 2004
  • Hometown: Granby, CT
  • Parents: Steve Rushin and Rebecca Lobo-Rushin
  • Siblings: Maeve, Thomas, and Rose
  • High School: Northwest Catholic High School (2018–2022)
  • Higher Education: Fordham University (2022–2026)

Rebecca Lobo’s Influences on Her Daughter’s Career Choice

Unlike what you might expect, the former UConn Huskies star never pushed her kids to pursue a career in sports. She never even cared if they did.

When little Siobhan was a few months old (and already in the 90th height percentile!), Rebecca Lobo made it clear that she wanted her daughter to do whatever she wants when she grows up.

In fact, she got upset when random strangers asked Siobhan if she was going to play basketball “just like her mommy.”

Rebecca Lobo made it clear that she hopes Siobhan Rushin can do anything she wants when she grows up, and Siobhan Rushin also doesn't want others to ask her if she plays basketball "like her mother"

Of course, Lobo understood there was no malicious intent behind these comments. Still, she felt that this was only going to set unfair expectations. From there on, she knew she had to shelter her little kids from that sort of burden (or, you know, at least limit it).

And I believe “limiting” the burden is a more realistic goal. After all, there’s only so much you can do to shelter your kids from the world of sports when you’re a famed basketball analyst and your partner is a sportswriter.

Fun Fact: Siobhan Rushin’s nursery had lots of nods to her mom’s basketball career. Take, for instance, the “94-95” painted on the wall. That’s a nod to Lobo’s undefeated championship year!

FAQs

Does Siobhan Rushin have a shot at a sports-adjacent career?

Lobo’s eldest daughter did play basketball at Northwest Catholic. She was also a Class S varsity volleyball player. Siobhan didn’t stop joining sports teams when she got into Fordman, either.

Besides interning at Wasserman, Siobhan has worked as a:

  • Marketing and promotions assistant

Siobhan Rushin’s passion lies in music and live entertainment. As soon as she got into Fordham, she was drawn to the local campus radio station (WFUV).

The promotions department, in particular, seemed appealing to the freshman. So, perhaps she’s going to work in the marketing side of the music industry after graduating.

Wrapping Up

Whether Siobhan ends up working in live music or sports, I don’t doubt that the Lobo-Rushin family is going to be extremely proud of her!
